Discernment is not knowing the difference between right and wrong. It is knowing the difference between right and almost right. - Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Greetings, and welcome to the DefCon blog.
This blog (in existence for over four years) is comprised of a team of contributors from around America who share a common passion for the spread of the gospel as well as engaging in the defense of the Christian faith.
Please be aware that although all the writers for this blog hold to the essentials of the Christian faith, we do differ on some peripheral ares: Some writers are Amillennial in their eschatology, some are Premillennial; some writers are staunch home educators, some are not; some writers are youth ministry abolitionists, some are ok with youth ministry; some writers ardently urge modesty in public dress for Christians, some do not see an issue in this area; some writers are passionate about politics, some writers have nothing to do with politics; some writers celebrate Christmas, some do not.
Although we have differing views on some of these side points, none us teach or believe that your salvation is contingent upon them (although some of us would argue that they would qualify as fruit of your conversion).
Although we have divergent views on many topics (and thus, not everything written on this blog is the opinion of every single writer), we collectively seek to:
1). Defend truth and contend for the Christian faith from the wolves that have secreted themselves within the flock.
2). Encourage those who claim to be Christians to begin living a life consistent with Biblical Christianity . . . or quit calling themselves Christians.
3). Lift up Jesus Christ because when He is lifted up all men will be drawn unto Him.
4). Do all of this for Soli Deo Gloria!
Stay the Course & Never Compromise!

I am born again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. In September 2000, God opened my eyes to the fact that I was a wretched and vile sinner because I had transgressed His laws. As such, I was deserving His righteous judgment and was bound straight for Hell. Yet, in God’s gracious mercy, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die in my place, taking the punishment I rightly deserved. He rose from the grave three days later, defeating sin and death. God granted me repentance and faith to receive Christ as my Lord and Savior, mercifully wiping away the debt of my sin and granting me eternal life.
Today I am a husband and father, desiring to raise my family in accord with God’s Word. I am also an evangelist, sharing the gospel with the lost, declaring the only path to salvation through Jesus Christ. I am a blogger on this site, hoping to use my meager efforts to edify the saints so that they may preach the gospel to everyone they meet. I am also involved in the Cross Encounters Radio program, a weekly web radio broadcast with Tony Miano, that strives to instruct and edify Christians in the proclamation of the gospel.

DEFCON CONTRIBUTOR: Abiding Through Grace
I was born in raised in a moral, but godless home. As I grew into my teens and into college I was a superstitious God-hating atheist. It was in college that God called me and open my eyes. Over a span of a couple months I went from ridiculing Christians to attending church, reading my Bible and making a profession of faith. Praise God for His sovereignty. Since becoming a believer, I finished college, became an engineer, married my lovely wife, and we have 2 children. I currently run our engineering business as CEO, engineer, and business development director. I am also a student at Reformed Baptist Seminary training for ministry via distance education under the oversight of my local church. I have felt a call to preach/ministry for many years and God has been so faithful to train me and teach me and put me under the submission of faithful Christian men to guide me and my family. I look forward to the years to come. Theologically, I am a reformed baptist believing in the Doctrines of Grace (Calvinism, TULIP), the 5 Solas of the reformation, and partial to the 1689 London Baptist Confessional. My favorite preachers and authors are guys like Spurgeon, JC Ryle, John Murray, RC Sproul, John MacArthur, Tom Wells, JI Packer, Sam Storms, CJ Mahaney, Brian Borgman, and many others.

I enjoy telling people the greatest news in the history of the world—the gospel. Two of the toughest places to do that are: 1. Here on the Internet, and 2. Downtown in my hometown on Friday or Saturday night.
The people on blogs are more passionate about what they believe than the average individual, and better able to defend it. The people hanging around downtown are in the midst of their sin, and don’t always appreciate being reminded of their need to turn from it.
Even though I’ve found myself proclaiming the gospel in two tough places, I have been richly blessed by my adventures in obedience to the Great Commission. And it makes me all the more excited when I get the opportunity to witness in a less hostile setting. If you’re a Christian, I hope to encourage you to get started witnessing or to continue witnessing. If you’re not a Christian, I hope to help you realize that you were not born all right the first time, and you must be born again.
