it is nice to find others who are tired of what the church in america has become. i think i heard this in one of Washer’s sermons, “we pray for revival yet wonder why God doesn’t move.” we are an unrepentant people who desire to approval of the world and not of God. i myself am moving towards a reformed theology and am glad to find a blog where i can be encouraged in my growth.

I only talk about what me and my family personally saw & heard, and how lots of it conflicts with the bible (IOW its false teaching). Anyway I used to be along side Doug & Chris for quite a while, but the Lord in His mercy rescued us.

Anyway, I want to pass along this info, so others can look at scripture, take our testimony into consideration and test everything as the word of God commands. I only wish I had ‘tested everything’; if I had, then lots of people, including me and my family wouldnt have gotten hurt, nor would others be involved in false teaching. Its a humbling experience needless to say.

i have to tell you I witnessed one of these preachers talking abou how he punched someone in the stomach so that he would be healed. Do you believe people went forward for healing?? who in their right mind would do this? I spoke to someone who went forward that this preacher was “healing” he wasn’t healed of anything……let’s stop looking for signs and wonders and just take hold of the treasure of Christ’s redemption! I too came to Reform theology by the authority of the Holy Spirit, God’s Word and the desire to satisfy the real Jesus (being drawn). I am a believer if a person is being drawn to Reform belief, this is truly a destiny that has been provided and set out for you by my ‘Sovereign Lord’… With Reform theology, by using God’s Word as the standard, I have never found any errors in principle, or belief(s) that could be labeled questionable. Basically, what I am saying it all lines up with God’s Word. On the other hand, years ago, I followed the charismatic program(s), which contradicts doctrine and basically is argumentive against God’s word; nothing lined-up. Guy, I have learned a lot from the DefCon team; Pilgrim, Four Pointer, Coram Deo and the others, which have been blessed with an abundance of knowledge. Myself, I am still learning and I hope you too continue to allow your discernment to guide you to the truth.
By the way, I too agree it is nice to find a blog with leadership that stands firm, and articles that are accurate, especially with all of the apostasy that we face daily.

I doubt that it was an accident, my running across this blog. I pastor a small church in Waco, Texas and I often feel like the Lone Ranger. I ask people if they know Christ and the answers generally fall into two categories, “Yes, I belong to the XYZ Church”, or “Yes, Jesus is Lord of my life.” Unfortunately, the latter answer is rare.
Then I am asked, “What is your doctrine?” Most often the person is confused when I hand them my Bible and say, “This is God’s doctrine and I have decided to follow it with His permission.”
As to your comment “What will save the Church in America?”, I believe that only when men and women, called to preach and teach, repent of the traditions of men and return to the solid, uncompromised, unashamed, and faithful adherence to the Word alone, will the American part of the Body of Christ be saved.

I have to agree with what Pastor Steve says above. I was a Student in my final year of University last year and somehow i “accidentally” stumbled upon this website. I’ve tried to jog my memory to try and remember how i discovered it but I really can’t remember. Anyhow you guys have proven to be a major blessing to me and the work that you do for this site is second to none. Keep it going and keep it humble!
Frustration doesn’t do it justice in relation to describing how I feel with sooooooo many Christians in and around my age (22) who are almost idolising Rob Bell, Brian McClaren, Campolo et al so to have a resource such as DefCon to drop in on is great! Thanks again and oh…..the new look is better!

I’ve rebutted David J. Stewart before. I read through his (typically sloppy) post on Paul Washer and saw him employing the same tired old arguments he regularly dusts off and trots out against Reformed believers.
I don’t intend to take the time to dismantle David Stewart yet again, but let it be known that he is a staunch opponent of the eternal gospel of grace as it is articulated in the Holy Bible. He is a synergist who therefore denies that salvation is all of grace. I don’t know if Paul Washer is aware of Stewart’s little rant, but in my mind there’s nothing substantial to Stewart’s screeching screed that merits a response. It’s my well considered opinion that Stewart is twisting Washer’s words simply because he hates theologically consistent Calvinists.
I’ll close with a quote from my last treatment of a David J. Stewart missive because I think it’s just as appropriate for the mangled logic he’s used in his hit piece on Washer:
Sadly David Stewart’s article was so filled with shameful exegesis, blatant errors, gross distortions, and outright falsehoods that it would take days to point out and refute them all. Given the examples above I believe I’ve offered sufficient scriptural evidence to refute David Stewart’s error riddled man-centered theology, therefore I’m going to leave off by simply asking anyone who happens to follow the link to the original article to take a discerning look at David Stewart’s home page and carefully consider the totality of his online “ministry” in the light of the manifold errors contained in the poor offering we’ve covered today.

I was not ever in doubt that repentance was required for salvation, but having a possibly over active, anti-works antennae, was mildly alarmed at the accusation that Washer was preaching a “works” salvation by requiring evidence of a holy life (bad paraphrase, but that’s the gist) .
I found your analogy about the husband “earning” his wife’s forgiveness most helpful.
CD, thanks! I hadn’t looked further into the site, as I wanted to weigh the strength of the argument on it’s own merit. Sometimes I can disagree with a lot of someone’s thinking, but it doesn’t make them wrong about everything. Reading your article has shown that he does certainly seem to have a problem with the reformed faith.
It will never cease to amaze me that once a Christian, someone could find something to complain about in the doctrine of divine election. I think the grace all the more amazing that God, for His own glory, chose to save me. It doesn’t get any sweeter than that.

You all need to be alerted and warned about the following re David Reagan. This sounds more like David Reagan declaring war on Christians.
Reagan’s views of Hell is about as Unorthodox Christianity as it gets….once again, talk about calling the kettle black. This almost as liberal as Schuler’s definition or the growing list of Christian universalists who think everyone will at least eventually go to Heaven like Carlton Pearson.

Now have lied twice…first about me, now about Jacob Prasch. Here is proof Jacob Prasch wrote you. How do you think I found your email address (I had corresponded with you before using your lamblion email which is published on the Internet)? But I did not have this one. The only way I was able to obtain it was search for the emails which were sent to me and to you and others by Jacob Prasch. For you to claim you receive no emails from Jacob Prasch, who includes you regularly, is beyond bizarre. So you are indicted by your own testimony. What is tragic about this, is that I trusted you and thought you were honorable. You have now shattered that illusion. If you are stating the I am bearing false witness, then you had better prove it. You lashed back without even reading the evidence in the full report. So you don’t know what you are talking about! btw, you say you do not know me, but we have corresponded before and have talked on the phone.
The Lord lists bearing false witness against a brother as one of six abominations in Proverbs. The Apostle Paul states that slanderers will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. John also states the same. Furthermore this is not a Matthew 18 matter which would be private, for he had already published his defamation publicly. So he (and now you) must biblically be publicly exposed, marked and sharply rebuked. But this initial was not my defamation at issue but another soldier in Christ who they also first published defamation which I can prove with the tapes. We can not join (walk) together according to Amos except we in agreement. So what does falsehood have in common with truth? And why would you want to not warn the rest of the body of Christ as a good Ezekiel Watchman on the Wall? So you would leave them clueless? The church in Germany during the Third Reich had the same philosophy. And I am sure glad Martin Luther did not take your advice and leave us without his 95 Theses!

But I did not speak up because I was not a widow.
Then they held a trial for two families at Valley Baptist Church in Lakeland, Minnesota, but I didn’t speak up because I was not a member of the General Baptist Convention.
Then they came after 165 members of Gardendale Baptist Church, Corpus Christi, Texas and ran them out of the church, but I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Southern Baptist.
Then a brother did finally speak up and tried to warn Eugene Christian Fellowship because they had gone Purpose Driven, but they threatened legal action and told him to stop spamming them. But I did not speak up for fear of being accused of spamming or being sued by a church.
Then a news reporter for a large Christian radio network sounded the alarm on His Holy Hill of this clear and present danger. They ran the story, but received more gnashing of teeth from callers then they had ever had, so they censored this story from their Agape Press print media news service.
Then still another brother on another Christian radio ministry broadcast testimonies of Christians thrown out of their churches across the country, but the network threatened to remove his show from the air, if another broadcast was ever made that said anything bad about Rick Warren. But I did not speak up because I had friends and family who were either employed by an organization that promoted Purpose Driven Church, or were in Purpose Driven Church, and I did not want to lose those relationships.
Then they came after a large group of members at New Hope Church in Bend, Oregon. But I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a member of The Evangelical Church denomination or the National Association of Evangelicals.
Then they came after a carpenter and his wife at Calvary Community Church in Phoenix, Arizona with the police and a sheriff and escorted him out of the church and off of the grounds for trying to expose the deeds of darkness and the teachings of Rick Warren, telling him that if he returned, he would be arrested. But I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a member of the Calvary Chapel denomination.
Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me, because every church in the nation had become Purpose Driven and part of his Global PEACE Plan.”

This is the published statement by Jacob Prasch, Director of Moriel Ministries, against me. It is absolute and completely total slander against me. I feel deserted and betrayed by them and a number of other well known discernment ministries. Not satisfied with deserting me, many of them have now retaliated against me. I already sent you my side of the story on this months ago. But I must tell you before the Lord that I am completely innocent. I would testify in court and prove with documentation that they are liars. It is Calvary Chapel Pastor John Higgins, Jacob Prasch, Mike Gendron who bore false witness against Bear Frankson, and Jacob Prasch and David Lister who bore false witness against me. In my view, and I have the proof….they are all cowards. The truth is still the truth and bearing false witness against a brother is an abomination to the Lord! Fraud and deception have given us President Obama, but it also has let guilty pastors and so-called Christian leaders go free at the expense of their innocent brethren!
Just thought you should know. If any of you who regularly receive my newsletter did not receive my response to their false charges I will supply you all with documentation.
To all of you who stood with me throughout the world, but most importantly stood with the truth, I thank you and commend you all. You will certainly receive your reward for not remaining silent in the face of iniquity both for me and others I have observed many of you stand up for.

Statement Concerning James Sundquist
To Whom It May Concern
A series of vicious and unfounded attacks against Pastor John Higgins, Mike Gendron, and others (including members of the Moriel team) are being circulated concerning events that transpired at a Conference held at a Calvary Chapel in Tempe , Arizona three years ago in June of 2005 which for some inexplicable reason has been resurrected as an issue. The Conference theme and aim was Roman Catholicism, the Evangelization of Roman Catholics, and the dangers of the ecumenical movement.
The conference was not about PURPOSE DRIVEN although the speakers and hosting Pastor (John Higgins) are all opposed to Purpose Driven and Purpose Driven was denounced from the pulpit due its ecumenical adjuncts. A variety of anti-Purpose Driven material was also available on the book tables of the conference speakers (including copies of a book by James Sundquist).
An individual identified as “Bear Frankson” arrived, unknown to anyone, and began distributing literature regarding “Purpose Driven” at the conference on church property without exercising the common dignity of obtaining prior consent from the event organizers or the hosting pastor. A host of witnesses found his actions disruptive and unrepresentative as the event did not sanction his activities. He made himself an uninvited nuisance lacking the common etiquette and common sense not to circulate printed matter at someone else’s event without requesting prior consent to do so. His behavior was ill-mannered and ignorant, as well as inappropriate as the conference was not about “Purpose Driven”.
After being instructed to cease his actions, Mr. Frankson began protesting outside of the church parking lot. Initially the pastor sent out donuts and coffee, but after the pastor’s wife offered cold water Mr. Frankson’s behavior became belligerently aggressive as was witnessed by several attendees. His demeanor was described as rather maniacal.
Mr. James Sunquist was not present at the event and has no first hand knowledge of it whatsoever. The witnesses do.
We are confused by the unbiblical actions of Mr. James Sundquist and his attacks on Pastor Higgins, Mike Gendron and others in an episode to which he was not party, not present, and not a witness. As those who are witnesses however, it is our testimony that Mr. Frankson behaved unbecomingly in pursuit of a self-promulgating agenda.
In response to the material unnecessarily being circulated by James Sundquist we can only revert to the teachings of God’s Word that apply in such a matter.
God’s Word dictates:
* That both sides of a dispute be heard (Proverbs 18: 17, John 7 :51) – Mr. Sundquist has sadly not done this.
* That charges not even be accepted against a pastor/ elder without a minimum of 2 or 3 witnesses (1 Timothy 5:19) – Despite being reminded of this Mr. Sundquist has disregarded the plain and unambiguous teaching of the Word of God. The actual witnesses present fault Mr. Frankson for his improper and unchristian conduct.
* That The Lord’s people do not meddle in a dispute that is not theirs; it is like grabbing a dog’s ears (Proverbs 26:17) – Despite being reminded of this, Mr. Sundquist has again disregarded the teaching of God’s Word and jumped into a ridiculous petty mess that was and is none of his concern.
Hence, we are unclear how Mr. Sundquist can continue in discernment ministry seeking to uphold God’s Word when he flagrantly disregards it himself. We like Mr. Sundquist, are blessed by his music ministry, appreciate his book on “Purpose Driven”, and wish him no personal ill. His actions, however, are categorically contrary to scripture and therefore cannot be of God. Our fear is that he is undermining his own credibility, damaging his own ministry, and off-setting the fine, good things he has achieved.
Of more concern however is the absurdity of protesting and of publicly rampaging against others who oppose Purpose Driven, ecumenism, and the other discernment related issues Mr. Sundquist himself is concerned with. To shoot your own allies when you have so few of them to begin with in a war against apostasy is, frankly, ludicrous.
We stand by Pastor Higgins, Mike Gendron and the others being unjustly accosted and we hope for his own sake and the sake of his ministry and the common cause we all uphold that our friend and brother James Sundquist will relent from this baseless escapade and rather re-focus on the real opposition.
We will have no further comment on this hideous situation. It has already received more attention than it warrants. We also politely decline to comment on circulated reports that there is a pattern of such behavior by Mr. Sundquist. In any event a private reconciliation should have been pursued instead of a pointless war. Discernment ministries with the same doctrine and concerns should not attack each other. I have known Mr. Sundquist quite a number of years and wish him nothing but blessing. But his actions are unbiblical.
