A shocking realization if a Mormon becomes president of the United States.

“Will you love your brothers or sisters likewise, when they have committed a sin that cannot be atoned for without the shedding of their blood? Will you love that man or woman well enough to shed their blood?”

– Brigham Young as recorded in Journal of Discourses Volume 4 Page 219

“If you want to know what to do with a thief that you may find stealing, I say kill him on the spot, and never suffer him to commit another iniquity.”

- Brigham Young as recorded in Journal of Discourses Volume 1 Page 108

“Men, who have been warned and forewarned, but who will associate with the wicked and take a course to commit whoredom, and will strive to lead our daughters and our wives into the society of poor, wicked curses, with a view to gratify their cursed passions; we will take them and slay them before this people.”

- Heber C. Kimball as recorded in Journal of Discourses, Volume 4, Page 173

As the debate among Christians continues on whether or not they would (or should) vote for a Mormon for president, and whether or not a Mormon president would be a good thing for our nation, there is a concern that has gone virtually unmentioned that I’d like to bring to your attention.

During the early years of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), a doctrine was taught (and practiced) that essentially gave Mormons the divine right to take another man’s life, believing not only that it was sanctioned by God, but that by doing so they were doing the victim a favor.

“There are sins that men commit for which they cannot receive forgiveness in this world, or in that which is to come, and if they had their eyes open to see their true condition, they would be perfectly willing to have their blood spilt upon the ground, that the smoke thereof might ascend to heaven as an offering for their sins; and the smoking incense would atone for their sins, whereas, if such is not the case, they will stick to them and remain upon them in the spirit world. I know, when you hear my brethren telling about cutting people off from the earth, that you consider it is a strong doctrine; but it is to save them, not destroy them.”

 - Brigham Young as recorded in Journal of Discourses Volume 4 Page 53

This Mormon doctrine, known as Blood Atonement, calls for the murder of those who commit sins that the blood of the Mormon Jesus can’t cleanse.

“It is true that the blood of the Son of God was shed for sins through the fall and those committed by men, yet men can commit sins which it can never remit.”

- Brigham Young as recorded in Journal of Discourses Volume 4 Page 54

Mormons actually believed that they were doing what Christ could not do; namely, saving a sinner’s soul. In this upside down world of Mormon atonement—which is completely antithetical to God’s plan of redemption as revealed in the Bible—even King David was unable to be fully forgiven by God for his sins and had to pay for his own sins in Hell.

According to Mormonism, even the sin of adultery could not be atoned for by God’s Son, and was cause for men and women needing their own blood shed:

“Suppose you found your brother in bed with your wife, and put a javelin through both of them, you would be justified, and they would atone for their sins and be received into the kingdom of God. I would at once do so in such a case; and under such circumstances, I have no wife whom I love so well that I would not put a javelin through her heart, and I would do it with clean hands. . . . There is not a man or woman who violates the covenants made with their God, that will not be required to pay the debt. The blood of Christ will never wipe that out, your own blood must atone for it.”

 – Brigham Young as recorded in Journal of Discourses Volume 3 Page 247

Not surprisingly, like many early Mormon teachings that later Mormon leaders felt were politically expedient to downplay, deny, or reverse (like racism, Adam was God, polygamy, the Mormon god’s sexual encounter with Mary, spiritual vegetables, people living on the moon, people living on the sun, etc.), their doctrine of Blood Atonement eventually just went away.

So, what bearing does this have on whether or not a Mormon is elected president? And how is the doctrine of Blood Atonement that’s no longer practiced (at least by the mainstream denomination of Mormonism) germane to American politics? And why should we be concerned about it now?

The answer lies in the reason they don’t practice it.

Mormon apologists claim they no longer practice Blood Atonement because it can only be practiced when the power of the government and the power of the church are in the same hands:

“This doctrine can only be practiced in its fulness in a day when the civil and ecclesiastical laws are administered in the same hands. It was, for instance, practiced in the days of Moses, but it was not and could not be practiced in this dispensation . . . .”

- Bruce R. McConkie as recorded on page 93 of his book Mormon Doctrine (1966 edition)

If either Mormon presidential candidate Romney or Jon Huntsman is elected president of the United States, then the civil and ecclesiastical laws will be in the same hands of the LDS organization, thus, there would be nothing preventing them from lifting their moratorium on shedding the blood of sinners. And, after all, they would be doing a great service to those caught up in sins that the Mormon Jesus simply can’t redeem them from.

But there is one thing that will stop them from following through with the words of their own prophets concerning Blood Atonement: Their insatiable appetite to protect the façade that they’re actually Christians.

Should a Mormon be elected president, the largest obstacle to their reinstitution of Blood Atonement would be that it would gravely hurt their proselytizing efforts. And as anyone who’s studied Mormon history knows, modern mainstream Mormonism will sacrifice their former principles and doctrines anytime it becomes politically expedient to do so. When times change, so does the mind of Mormonism’s god.

Modern Mormons have worked too hard to distance themselves from the uncomfortable teachings of their past prophets, while simultaneously (and ironically I might add) tirelessly working to reinvent themselves to appear to the unsuspecting and undiscerning as Christians, (the very Christians—and Christian faith—they consider apostate).

If the LDS organization loses converts it loses money. I don’t believe that the current LDS propaganda machine would do anything to jeopardize their new mainstream image, but with the “civil and ecclesiastical laws” being “administered in the same hands” the ban from practicing Blood Atonement would be gone, and that is a more frightening prospect than a promised tax hike.

To learn more about Blood Atonement, see:

The Mormon doctrine of Blood Atonement as taught by Brigham Young

The Doctrine of Blood Atonement as taught by the Mormon organization

“The wickedness and ignorance of the nations forbid this principle’s [sic] being in full force, but the time will come when the law of God will be in full force. This is loving your neighbour [sic] as ourselves; if he needs help, help him; and if he wants salvation and it is necessary to spill his blood on the earth in order that he may be saved, spill it. Any of you who understand the principles of eternity, if you have sinned a sin requiring the shedding of blood, except the sin unto death, would not be satisfied nor rest until your blood should be spilled, that you might gain that salvation you desire. This is the way to love mankind.”

  1. Amen. While the threat of Islam captures the attention of Americans the Mormons do an end-run for the goal line.

The acceptance of Mitt Romney by mainstream “Christians” suggests that Americans have forgotten that there are two major religions in this world that claim their origins in Christianity, yet are truly born of Satan’s bold deceptions. In fact, the creation of these two mainstream religions could be counted as two out of three of Satan’s greatest accomplishments. And our belief that Christianity is a religion is the other. So he has deluded us into thinking that God is involved in a great battle to have Christianity win out over the other two, when in reality, Christ is busy in the world bringing men to Himself, not to any religion, including Christianity. God is not interested nor involved in the great religious wars. He is looking for disciples who will give up everything and follow Him, as He always has. The few, the chosen, on the narrow road, not the masses on the religious Broadway.

Both Islam and the Mormon religions were started by men who claimed visions of angels in a cave. Both were born in violence. Both required blind acceptance of their new religious leaders’ “scripture” that was handed them. Both Islam and Mormonism are heretical cults that want us to believe they worship God, yet both are soundly condemned in Scripture by their own beliefs and actions, and stand as antithetical to Christ and the Kingdom of God. But so-called “Christians” in our affluent societies have been taught that outward appearances are what count. So if a man says he’s “Christian” or worships God, he is lauded and applauded as advancing the cause of God, because he is enabling us to be more acceptable in the eyes of the world. Therefore men like Mitt Romney get Christian votes, just because he looks good, sounds good, “stands for God and country”, and lives what we consider a moral life.

It is incumbent on us to reject these men, not because they are not nice people, nor because their political beliefs don’t fit us, but because they are wolves in sheep’s clothing, ready to devour anyone who does not agree with their religious cult’s agenda. They are “moles” of Satan, who are dupes in the war on Christ by our Lord’s enemy.

We have the rare privilege of voting, and the rarer privilege of speaking out in freedom. Let’s use it to help elect men of true godliness if they can be found, while realizing that God is Sovereign over the affairs of men and kingdoms, and no matter the intent and force of worldly agendas and groups of men, He holds sway over everything. We need not worry about that. But exercising our responsibilities to speak out and vote are still very important as followers of Christ. Nothing would surprise me in this rapid descent into darkness our nation has taken. It seems the empty religion Christians have practiced over the past decades is reaping a harvest of decadence. That would line up with Scripture in every way, with plenty of examples from the past.

I love God and His Christ. And Christ came, not to bring peace, but a Sword. And that Sword is wielded to destroy the works of Satan. Why should we expect things to be any different in America than in any other nation of the world in any other period in history? We must be about our Father’s business, living the Christ-life, and glorifying only Him.

  2. David says:

“Modern Christianity has worked hard to distance themselves from the doctrine of stoning. Early prophets taught that adulterer’s and blasphemers had to be stoned to death and there is certainly some worry that once the government is in control of Christians, stoning could once again become the law of the land.”

Ridiculous? Yes, and every bit as ridiculous as the assertion that there is a risk that somehow a Mormon president that has secretly been harboring this doctrine would rally his necessarily Mormon Congress and Mormon State governments to go along with something that may have been mentioned, but certainly not practiced in the LDS Church.

The LDS Church’s web site, contains the complete teachings of the church. It contains their scripture, lesson manuals, magazines and major church addresses given during the last 30 years. Search it to find if the doctrine has ever been taught during that time. Talk to the Mormons you work with and ask them if they’ve even ever heard of it. It is most definitely not a mainstream LDS doctrine and never has been.

  3. David, you are wrong that “modern Christianity” has worked to distance from stoning. CONTEXT was that the law for that was given ONLY to Israel. So it was never a Christian thing.

The LDS church does indeed distance itself from doctrines which are still in force. Why do you think until recently Utah was the only state with the firing squad as a choice for execution? Blood atonement! Deny that polygamy is still in force and then explain D&C 132 where it still says if you don’t have multiple wives you are in violation of God’s command.

Whether or not a doctrine has been taught over the past 30 years doesn’t determine if it is LDS doctrine. LDS have been perpetrating a fraud over the past few decades to try to appear to be mainstream Christianity. It will never work because the LDS is not a Christian faith.

  4. Barack Obama is a Christian, a former member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. His is keeping his current church private for the safety of his wife and daughters.

He wrote that he “was not raised in a religious household”. He described his mother, raised by non-religious parents (whom Obama has specified elsewhere as “non-practicing Methodists and Baptists”), to be detached from religion.

All I am saying here, a persons religion or faith plays a part of his thinking, but not necessarily the means whereby he tries to govern the country. I do believe we have had several BAPTIST who were presidents.

  5. Obama is a Christian in name only – sort of like a Mormon. He has no Christian beliefs and attended an apostate church for 20 years. The UCC denomination which he attended is an apostate denomination, and his specific assembly was part of the cult of Black Liberation Theology.

  6. “You and each of you do covenant and promise that you will pray and never cease to pray to Almighty God to avenge the blood of the prophets upon this nation, and that you will teach the same to your children and to your children’s children unto the third and fourth generation.” (U.S. Senate Document 486 (59th Congress, 1st Session) Proceedings Before the Committee on Privileges and Elections of the United States Senate in the Matter of the Protests Against the Right of Hon. Reed Smoot, a Senator from the State of Utah, to hold his Seat. vol. 4, p. 7.)

That preceding oath of vengeance was part of the Mormon Temple Endowment ceremony up until 1927. In fact, much of the past practices and teachings of men like Brigham Young and Joseph Smith were expunged in 1927 as part of the LDS’s “Good Neighbor Policy.” I’ll try to post more on that policy in the coming weeks.

And, actually, you WON’T find many of the things the Mormon church teaches (and has taught through the years) at their website. It has been sanitized as part of their ongoing effort to appear more like a mainline Christian church.

  7. Although very interesting, we are very unlikely to have a Mormon candidate…especially in Rick Perry shows up.

We should be much more concerned about a congress and senate full of Mormons…that would be a quieter way of gaining control and having tremendous influence. The percentages are low right now (~2.5% total)…but Harry Reid has a strong position already.

  8. A false christian or a secular pagan? It makes no difference as God’s will will be done. Your Bible is your guide and prophesy will prevail. Come out of wordly politics other than observation and watching of the the times. You have been called out of the world, not to influence it with your it with illusionary voting.

  9. oak says:

I think who ever says MORMONS are not christians do not know about the church. I am a mormon, I know President Obama is good but ROMNEY’S term will be the best in American history
