The Message “bible” with another changed verse about homosexual sin
We now have a generation raised under the “scripture” of The Message, with its omission of homosexuality as a specific sin in 1 Corinthians 6: 9-11, and also the altered presentation of 1 Timothy 1:9-10. (READ)
But what about 1 Kings 22:46? Eugene Peterson, author of The Message, strikes again. The Message states: “Also, he got rid of the sacred prostitutes left over from the days of his father, Asa.”
Sacred prostitutes? That’s the description?

I never cease to be disgusted with Christians who consider Eugene the Apostate’s paraphrase as “The Bible”, or “a Bible”. Shame on Logos software and BibleGateway.com, among myriad.
Here are two other looks, from different perspectives, comparing Peterson’s trash to God’s Word.

Thank you for the links Manfred, they are excellent. I hesitated to even put ‘bible’ in the title of the post, but I think it is essential in exposing the deception of this trash.
Lyn:
Thanks for exposing this.
The number of “christian” celebrities and leaders who have associated themselves with this perversion of God’s holy word is staggering, and very telling: Billy Graham, Rick Warren, Joni Earickson Tada, Bill McCartney, J.I.Packer, Warren Wiersbe, Jack Hayford, Gordon Fee, Rickard J. Foster, Michael Card, Madeleine L’Engle, Jerry Jenkins, Leighton Ford, Jay Kesler, Benny Hinn, Bill Hybels, the Gaithers, Chuck Swindoll, Gary Smalley, Gordon MacDonald, John Maxwell, Joyce Meyer, Max Lucado, Rod Parsley, Tony Compolo, Mike Yaconelli, Leith Anderson, Duffy Robbins, and many many others.
Look also at his “translation” of Romans 1: 26-27: “Sexually confused, they abused and defiled one another, women with women, men with men – all lust, no love.”
This plays right into the homosexualist’s hands: they say with love homosexual behavior is okay, and this proves that Romans is only talking about lustful actions.
I noticed he had to keep the Levitical passages plain.
David W, Do not forget to add to your list of celebrity ‘Christians’ David Jeremiah. I have heard him quote from this trash numerous times. It is heartbreaking to think so many lack a key trait given by God…discernment.
Can you guess where this verse is from in The Message?
(And don’t cheat by using your Strong’s Message Concordance).
I don’t know, but that’s pretty funny – and very sad.
I haven’t read The Mess, but I have read many passages from it, and all have problems. I bought an NIV/Message parallel a while back and haven’t had any time to peruse it. The NIV, being a dynamic translation, often doesn’t give the full force of the problem with The Mess but it gives a place to start.
Him too? Behold the power of influence. For too many, the reasoning goes like this:
And the influence of an esteemed leader, or a collective group of esteemed men, often overshadows and trumps the truth of the matter.
But a comparison with the Greek text reveals “The Message” is neither the word of God, nor an accurate paraphrase of the word of God! It is a gross perversion of God’s word! And now that all these men have given approval to this perversion, it calls the discernment of ALL these men into serious question.
Pilgrim: I’m going to guess James, but beyond that, I can’t figure it out. Maybe if you offer a cash prize, I’ll try harder.
As for the links, wow. I never really liked the Message, but it always just seemed to date itself with the terms and expressions. It was irritating, but harmless – kind of like when I referred to Samson as living life as a dog (will elaborate on request). But actually seeing side-by-side what exactly the Message is distorting, these aren’t just paraphrases, nor do they clear things up that may be lost in translation or words that have changed meaning; these are significant twistings. What you need to do is set up a spreadsheet for all this.
Although the following site is a KJV Only operation, and therefore has some problems of its own when discussing The Message, it does a good job of comparing passages:

Praise God for this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a direct answer to fervent pray!!! My spirit has been distraught about The Message paraphrase and the deception that has been handed to our children like candy.
The very fact that it has a satanic incantation in the Lord’s Prayer is beyond words.
Matthew 6:9-10 Should be ” Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.” NASB
The way it reads in The Message paraphrase “Our Father in Heaven. Reveal who you are. Set the world right; Do what is best- As above, so below.”
“Reveal who you are?????????????? He has revealed who He is throughout the whole Old Testament with the completion in Christ’s atoning sacrifice on the Cross for the remission of our sins. While totally omitting “Hallowed be thy name” which is crux of understanding of the utter Holiness of God the Father. Of course the indescribable horror is the “As above so below” which I actually saw as a bumper sticker on a car displayed proudly beside their pink wiccan sticker. Where is the FEAR of the Lord?
My prayer was that God would open our eyes to see the evil in this man made deception of the very word of our beloved God. And that we would have an awakening similar to that in Ephesus;
“and fear fell upon them all and the name of the Lord Jesus was being magnified. Many also of those who had believed and kept coming, confessing and disclosing their practices. And many of those who practiced magic brought their books together and began burning them in the sight of everyone; and they counted up the price of them and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So the word of the Lord was growing mightily and prevailing.” Acts 19:17-20
Oh may God move us to purge this abomination from our midst.
@Pilgrim–
Sounds like it could be Psalm 1:1?
Does lack of discernment mean that someone is not born again?
You’re right Fourpointer. Either you’re very perceptive or you remembered this verse from three years ago:

What a tragedy
There is a post by Mike Ratliff where Rick Warren references the mess’ age as he twists scripture; I recommend reading Mike’s post as wolfboy Warren teaches falsely how to hear from God…http://mikeratliff.wordpress.com/2011/03/26/false-teaching-on-how-to-hear-from-god/
