Quotes (700)

voddie-baucham So many of our children have little idea what they believe or why they believe it. Couple this with the fact that they are fallen human beings whose natural bent is to sin, and it is not difficult to see their dilemma. Failing to catechize our children is tantamount to surrendering to the culture. . . . Failing to catechize our children only makes it that much easier for the Secular Humanism with which they are constantly bombarded in school, on television, and through friends, neighbors, and coaches to take root and become the guiding principle by which they live.

  1. Excellent reminder. I pray my adult children do better in this arena than did I. More than a prayer, however, as I am exhorting them and encouraging them in myriad ways. Thanks be to God for His unspeakable mercies!

  2. I just love it when a Voddie qoute on raising children comes along – being a new father, I need this stuff!

How true it is to be doing this.

    Thanks

  3. Matthew,

I highly recommend these two books by Voddie:

My children have been given the first one and will get the second one as part of a starter library of reformed theology.

  4. Thanks brother – will check them out now.

  6. Matthew,

Brain cramp on my part – CONGRATS on becoming a father! Let me add a book to your list – this one is THE book you need, first! Well, along side of Family Driven Faith. I was SHOCKED by this book and declare it as the best child rearing book on the planet.

Shepherding a Child’s Heart is about how to speak to the heart of your child. The things your child does and says flows from the heart. Luke 6:45 puts it this way, “. . . out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.” (NIV) Written for parents with children of any age, this insightful book provides perspectives and procedures for shepherding your child’s heart into the paths of life. “Tedd Tripp knows what he is talking about and who he is talking to. He knows children, he knows parents . . . and he knows the ways of God. This book teaches you what your goals should be and how to pursue these ends practically. It teaches you how to talk to your children and what to talk about. It will inspire you to become a different kind of parent. This is a masterful Book.” – Dr. David Powlison, Professor of Practical Theology, Westminster Theological Seminary.
