The Reformation View of Roman Catholicism

From the works of Martin Luther (1483-1546)

What is the whole papacy but a beautiful false front and a deceptively glittering holiness under which the wretched devil lies in hiding? The devil always desires to imitate God in this way. He cannot bear to observe God speaking. If he cannot prevent it or hinder God’s Word by force, he opposes it with a semblance of piety, takes the very words God had spoken and so twist them as to peddle his lies and poison under their name. (What Luther Says, II: 10007)

Since the papal church not only neglects the command of Christ but even compels the people to ignore it and to act against it, it is certain that it is not Christ’s church but the synagogue of Satan which prescribes sin and prohibits righteousness. It clearly and indisputably follows that it must be the abomination of Antichrist and the furious harlot of the devil. (What Luther Says, II: 1019)

The negotiation about doctrinal agreement displeases me altogether, for this is utterly impossible unless the pope has his papacy abolished. Therefore avoid and flee those who seek the middle of the road. Think of me after I am dead and such middle-of-the-road men arise, for nothing good will come of it. There can be no compromise. (What Luther Says, II: 1019)

  1. The pope speaks twaddle! Though I part with Luther on several things, I praise God for Luther’s stand on certain key issues. The old guy was not overly sensitive to those worldings he was trying to reach, was he? Rick Warren, et. al. – please take note!

  2. Martin Martin your so intolerant and unrefined, we just can not have this sort of harsh talk because we need to just love.
……..ah you know what he is right, the Pope is an Antichrist and this system of works that the catholics send people to hell. I wish more men would stand up and warn others of the lies and deception.

  3. I appreciate Martin Luther and his blunt speach more all the time. He also condemed the Talmudic Jews in his last sermon. If we had more leaders with common sense like him and listened, we might not be living under the total web of evil and corrupution we face today.

  4. No single or group of men holds any exclusive rights to sin Hal …
I once asked a brother if there was funny stuff in the word of God that would make it OK for preachers to make jokes in the pulpit. The answer I got was; yeah, look at the ass talking to the prophet.
So I went to Peter where he wrote of it saying;2Pe 2:16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbade the madness of the prophet.
2Pe 2:17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest:to whom the mist of darkness is reserved forever.
Did you get the punch line there;to whom the mist of darkness is reserved forever.
So my question is being save by grace and knowing our condition before Christ called us, do we hold others in contempt for their sins? Do we condemn them or the sin that is in them? Just a thought…

  5. But I have to agree with you on that those who have had a part in making proclamation of Christ our Lord an illegal event punishable by imprisonment are worth less to God and His cause, but Christ said it would be that way didn’t he. And he left them no place to hide from their sins of pride and self righteousness. As didn’t Paul in Galatians.!!!

On another note I don’t like that face for my other address, but the fangs are appropriate for a pyramid.LOL

  6. Thanks Manfred, but everyone has stollen my name over there and it wont give it back, or I’d have to make up another one, and as says Pro 22:1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches.
so I’ll try to keep from clicking on my other address when signing in.

  7. Thanks, Jonathan.

I have great respect for Dr. Martin Luther as knowing who he was dealing with, even if he had lost patience with them. I am trying to study him more closely, but am sure than endured much difficulty, and not making his claims lightly.

I cannot try to describe all the bits and pieces of information I have gathered that convinced me and others about how evil this world truly is, but will continue to warn my fellow Christians that we are in a real war and not to take any freedom of choice we have today for granted.

We live in a time where political terrorism is an industry, and unarmed non-combatants (women & children) are killed as if they were enemy soldiers. I don’t think Christians living in “first world” countries understand it at all. Rachel Corey is one example of someone with a great heart not realizing we are at war against true evil.

“So my question is being save by grace and knowing our condition before Christ called us, do we hold others in contempt for their sins? Do we condemn them or the sin that is in them? Just a thought. ”

My answer is that God condems the depraved to Gehenna, if they do not repent, and we must hold them accountable. We are at war with the depraved, and we have been fools not to understand this. I am talking about sinners who glory in their sin and false superiority.

I have been guilty of givng our enemies the benefit of the doubt, wanting to show Christian love, and believing that others would sound the alarm if things were too bad. People like Dr. Martin Luther did sound the alarm and fewer and fewer people listened over the years, and our enemy took full advantage of the situation. Once a Christian truly wakes up, he will know he is at war instead of a debating society. Will it be too late?

  8. Yes Hal, I to think that it needs to be said as well. And I think that they have been appointed to their damnation just like Pharaoh was for the purpose of showing Gods Glory to the people of Isreal and the world. You know that the media even supresses that or that they were even called out of Egypt!
Rom 9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that hath mercy.
Rom 9:17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, For this very purpose did I raise thee up, that I might show in thee my power, and that my name might be published abroad in all the earth.
Rom 9:18 So then he hath mercy on whom he will, and whom he will be hardeneth.
Rom 9:19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he still find fault? For who withstandeth his will?

Who’s will are you under? not just you Hal, but anyone out there…2Ti 2:25 in meekness correcting them that oppose themselves; if peradventure God may give them repentance unto the knowledge of the truth,
2Ti 2:26 and they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him unto his will.
Who are you going to give the glory to?Rom 9:20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why didst thou make me thus?
Rom 9:21 Or hath not the potter a right over the clay, from the same lump to make one part a vessel unto honor, and another unto dishonor?

Yes you will know them by their fruits! Dan 4:34 And at the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honored him that liveth for ever; for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom from generation to generation.
Dan 4:35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
Dan 4:36 At the same time mine understanding returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent greatness was added unto me.
Dan 4:37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways justice; and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.
