In attempting to merely speak of God’s word among professing Christians, all is good as long as we only talk about the goodness and love of God, and about things we all agree on. The minute we expose an error in teaching or practice, or contrast God’s word against a favorite preacher or author, we see what’s really in one’s heart by the reaction we receive. The heart that truly has submitted to the Lord Jesus Christ bows to God’s truth, no matter how it may conflict with the ego, no matter how much it may insult our “intelligence”, no matter how it may conflict with what we want to believe.

Our reaction to another’s reaction speaks volumes of our own heart. May the Lord grant us wisdom that in our desire to proclaim or defend God’s truth, we keep a close check on our own hearts.
