Why Johnny Can't PreachWhat could we conclude about preaching today, other than that the great transaction of the Sin-bearer’s suffering for sinners has receded in importance from our churches? I read a Spurgeon quote the other day in which he lamented that when men depart from the Word of God, to “supplement it” with their own wit and wisdom, the message of the Gospel gets diluted and people who need conviction of sin get entertained instead. ‘Tis a sad truth in many churches today, even those with a good statement of beliefs. Many elders are “people driven” rather than God focused, resulting in the dismal state of social clubs clothed in church language.

    Manfred:
I stopped endorsing the Westminster website (that you linked to) last November when we discovered that they were selling one of Rich Warren’s books.

  5. Manfred says:

If those folks are selling Rick Warren’s work (among others) they are leaving the world of “reformed” in favor of the world of “deformed”. From such, turn away.
