A Special Need in Liberia!

This morning I received an email from a dear brother in the Lord. He is a national pastor in Liberia and is involved in church-planting. They are currently on their 5th church plant. I personally know this brother Philemon, his wife Dylin and their family.

“Dear Pastor,

This morning an Armed mens enter our house around about 4:15 am local time and get away with some items from us. They took my little computer, radio, our cell phones, and a hand bag that Dylin used to keep our money to carry us through the weeks in the month.

Most of all, they took away our bag of rice leavning us with nothing at all. The window was destroyed and so was our back door.

We are all confuse and donot know what to do. I have just come to inform you for your prayers. This is the second time in this year, it happened the first time on January 1, 2009.

Pastor Philemon”

Liberia has only recently come out of a major civil war which lasted 14 years. Jobs are not easy to find and unemployment is over 60%. Their cell phones are the only way to communicate within the country and his computer given to him by a mission agency is his means of study as it had Bible study programs. He not only pastors his own church but goes throughout the country helping new pastors to start new church plants particularly in the Interior.

We have been blessed with so much here in the West and this is a Christian brother and his family who are in desperate need. Please pray and if you would like to help get some much needed funds to him, email me at thedesertpastor@yahoo.com and I will let you know how this can be accomplished very quickly. Any and ALL funds received will be receipted and given in their entirety to Philemon and Dylin.

You can also go to the website for Village Church Planters for more contact information.

Thanks in advance for your prayers and any help.

I was just thinking today that so often in the West we show that we’re Christians by our cheesy (and often irreverent) Christian T-shirts, while others throughout the world evidence their Christianity by their scars.

I am glad Brother Philemon and his family were unharmed (yet again). Praise and glory to God our sovereign Lord for all things, including trials.

We will be touching base with you this week in the matter. Thanks for posting this and keeping the urgency of missions at the forefront of our thoughts to compete with our daily distractions.

  2. It kind of makes you wonder what people are thinking when all they can do is defend those t-shirts that make a mockery of God while Christians in many parts of the world can barely even get clothes that fit their children! On top of that, the things they go through would put us to shame because we would be hard-pressed to be joyful in the midst of those same trials! May the Lord help us to learn from their love of God and stand against the wickedness of this world!

It’s always heartbreaking to read something like this. You don’t want it to be happening, and you want to help in anyway you can.

So many Christians worldwide are going through the same thing as this precious family, and some are losing their lives because of it.

I look around my home and think I have so much. And in comparison with this family I do. But in the eyes of the world and the Western church, there are so many things we ‘need’. Like, “When are you going to get a flat screen television?”

Do we even need a television?

But, let us not let our brothers and sisters in Christ suffer without us offering some form of comfort to them.

Let us pray, and give of our finances for this family and for others.

    I intend to give.

    Will you join me?

    God bless.

  4. To those who have replied so far, I say on behalf of Pastor Philemon – THANK YOU! The amount to be given is increasing, and it is our prayer to be able to send him a good offering to help replace his food supply as well as a few things stolen.

  5. For those who have expressed a desire to help, I spoke with Pastor Philemon this morning. He has given thanks to the Lord for the unexpected blessings that are forthcoming.

I would ask that you keep his six girls and wife in prayer as they are very shaken up right now and troubled in spirit. Pray that the Lord would give them a measure of peace that passes all understanding.

Again, if you desire to help please write to me at thedesertpastor@yahoo.com

    May the Lord bless each.

    The Desert Pastor
