Jim Elliot You wonder why people choose fields away from the States when young people at home are drifting because no one wants to take time to listen to their problems. Ill tell you why I left. Because those Stateside young people have every opportunity to study, hear, and understand the Word of God in their own language, and these Indians have no opportunity whatsoever. I have had to make a cross of two logs, and lie down on it, to show the Indians what it means to crucify a man. When there is that much ignorance over here and so much knowledge and opportunity over there, I have no question in my mind why God sent me here. Those whimpering Stateside young people will wake up on the Day of Judgment condemned to worse fates than these demon-fearing Indians, because, having a Bible, they were bored with it—while these never heard of such a thing as writing.

  1. AMEN!! America has the most religious freedom in the world, and yet, most never open a bible to actually read it. I’ve heard it said that America is the biggest mission field, and I seriously question that statement. This nation is fattening itself for the day of slaughter; America serves mammon and bows down to the god of materialism, selfishness, and greed…but we’re a ‘Christian nation’…this too is a troublesome statement. This nation aborts over 4,000 babies each day, the divorce rate is just as high among Christians as it is among unbelievers; yet we want to boast of being a ‘Christian nation’.
It brings to mind Isaiah 29:13, ‘Forasmuch as this people draw near [me] with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me’

  2. I’ve read the book, ‘Sodom had no Bible’ by Leonard Ravenhill.

If Sodom and the surrounding cities had no Bibible, no churches etc, then what chance does the ‘Western Church’ today suppose it has of not being condemned and judged by God?

We have so much that we could not care less about whether people are lost or not.

Could be that is the problem, we have too much. Or one of the problems.

    God help us.

  3. “…because, having a Bible, they were bored with it…”

Some of the saddest words that can be said of any generation.

  4. This is definitely a problem within the western world and we’ve seen this even in England. The western world doesn’t really want to hear the truth! They’ve had the truth for years now and are sick of it so don’t confuse them with the facts. A very sad commentary to our society!
