Quotes (582)

spurgeon-pic.jpg If we let passion take the place of judgment, and self-will reign instead of Scriptural authority, we shall fight the Lord’s battles with the devil’s weapons, and if we cut our own fingers we must not be surprised.

- Charles Spurgeon

1834 – 1892

  1. The last thing the Lord needs is us fighting His battles.

Usually we spend most of our time fighting Him.

“He sets a table in the sight of His enemies.”

And He invites them to sup with Him.

What a great God we have!

  2. I read this out loud to my wife last night. I was struck by Spurgeon’s call to Scriptural authority. In our final message on the Sermon on the Mount yesterday, Voddie began by explaining Matt 7:28 & 29. The people were astonished at Christ’s teaching because He spoke with authority. When Christ was telling the last parable in this sermon, He said “whosoever heareth these sayings of mine” – emphasizing His authority as God. When the scribes spoke, they quoted Moses, et. al. When Jesus spoke, he spoke His own words. “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given unto me.”

Praise God! He speaks with Authority. His Word has His Authority. Let no man think he is anything but in dire need of mercy.
