Resolved

Posted: June 30, 2009 by Coram Deo in Random Selections

Dear gentle DefCon readers, commenters, regulars, passers-by, and contributors…

I hereby resolve to resign.

I resign from wasting copious hours blogging and generally being “on-line” that are more profitably spent in God’s Word.

I resign from being more interested in what comments or traffic have been generated by random blog posts than I’m interested in knowing and discovering more about The Triune One True and Living God.

I resign from checking my e-mail more often than I check my concordance.

I resign from reading pithy on-line doctrinal treatises instead of studying infallible scripture.

I resign from spending more time thinking about my next post than I spend thinking about the Risen Christ.

I resign from ”speaking” to people I don’t even know on-line instead of speaking the truth in love to my neighbors, co-workers, family and friends.

I resign from the prideful narcissism I feel whenever, in my own mind at least, I’ve made a really, really good theological point, and received positive feedback from commenters.

I resign from the wrathful flash of anger I feel whenever, in my own mind at least, I’ve made a really, really good theological point, and received negative feedback from commenters.

I resign from taking time away from my precious family and sacrificing it at the altar of my electronic idol for my own personal pleasure and gratification.

I resign from considering a fine theological point more deeply than I consider my own prayer life.

I resign from being a poor steward of my time.

I resign from the self-deception that in the past has variously assured me; “You’re doing it for the Lord!”  “It’s your ministry!“  “The Internet is your mission field!“  “Look at how many people you can reach with the truth!

In short, I quit.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Team DefCon for your steadfast love for, faithfulness toward, and service unto King Jesus.  May I also dispel any misunderstanding and clarify at this juncture that my thoughts above are about no one other than myself, and they are not a reflection of my opinion of other God-bloggers.  I am in no way projecting my own personal situation upon anyone else.  In fact I’m fully persuaded that there are many, many godly men and women who are truly called by the Lord to use the Internet in general, and blogging in particular, as a medium to serve Him - including those who comprise Team DefCon – but after much soul searching I’ve come to the sobering realization that I’m simply not one of them, and I’m no longer willing to play the hypocrite.

May the Lamb that was slain receive the reward of His suffering.

‘Til He returns or calls me home,
CD

P.S. – I will no longer be interacting with comments left on this, or any other thread.

  1. May the LORD continue to work in your life. He is obviously calling you elsewhere, namely unto Himself. What a great an awesome God we have!

Your sobering and upfront post here displays clearly where you true priority lay; in His hands.

And may we all take note.

All the best as you move on, being obedient to the LORD, as He has laid this burden on your heart.

    I like it!

    Go serve your King

  2. The Pilgrim says:

    Coram:

Thank you for your diligent service, dedication, and unwavering fight in the Truth War over the past couple years.

Your decision is one that I have been wrestling with as well lately, and have even cut back on my postings and comments. Let us all take stock of what’s important, let us redeem the time, let us be obedient to whatever He calls us to, and let us remain faithful to Him whom we serve in whatever capacity He has us.

I commend you for your decision and you will be sorely missed.

    Sincerely,
    Your brother in the Lord,
    - The Pilgrim

  3. Godspeed, brother.

    CD,

It is only by placing our trust in YHVH our God to do with us as HE will that we can truly serve Him and glorfiy Him here on earth. You are doing, I feel, the proper thing. If God is calling you to some other endeavour, then you will indeed glorify Him by submitting to His mighty hand. May you always follow where He leads, brother! I’ll see ya in Jerusalem!

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit!
    Amen.

  5. Coram Deo,

I too am very appreciative of what you have contributed to Defending Contending. Making such a decision takes much time in thoughtful prayer and I too praise the Lord for your willingness to stand in the gap with the other contributors here.

We would all do well to consider our own situations on a more regular basis when we learn of a good brother who has laid down the blogging pen. As The Pilgrim has said, we must “be obedient to whatever He calls us to, and let us remain faithful to Him whom we serve in whatever capacity He has us.”

You will definitely be missed here, but at least we can keep in contact through our emails and you have my phone number so feel free to reach me anytime you would like to talk.

    Soli Deo Gloria!
