Purpose-Driven Connection Promotes Heretical Shack

Jun 24 by Ingrid Schlueter

Rick Warren’s new online magazine, Purpose-Driven Connection, is also promoting the heretical book, The Shack. It would not bother Rick that author William Paul Young denies the penal substitutionary atonement. Doctrine does not matter. What matters is if you feel “moved”, if you laugh, if you cry, if you feel “transformed” by whatever popular book is on the best seller list. Who cares that the substitutionary atonement is at the heart of the true Gospel? Who cares if William Paul Young is denying this basic biblical doctrine? He wrote a book that emotionally moves us, and that, today, is all that matters.

About Coram Deo

Greetings! By way of introduction I am a born-again Christian who seeks to live in the presence of, under the authority of, and to the honor and glory of the Triune Yahweh Elohim Shaddai–the One True and Living LORD God Almighty Who is the self contained, self sufficient, and unique infinite Creator of all things. I believe the historic, orthodox, Biblical Christian faith as found in the 66 books of the Holy Bible is the only true and right religion that has been revealed to mankind and all other faiths and extra-Biblical sources of revelation are absolutely false and without any eternal merit or redemptive power. Through this medium I hope to share my worldview with any who are interested, and in this manner I hope to expand my witness to the lost, and extend whatever ability I’ve been given to edify the believer to the praise of the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ, the risen Savior. Sola Scriptura! (Scripture alone), Sola Fide! (faith alone), Sola Gratia! (grace alone), Soli Christo! (Christ alone) - Soli Deo Gloria! (to God alone be glory)

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Rick Warren has wandered so far off the narrow path that the only thing that would surprise me about his actions would be if he publicly repented and began preaching reformed Truth to all comers.

  2. The Pilgrim says:

And let us not forget who calls Rick Warren a “brother in Christ.

  3. Manfred says:

    Pilgrim,

Lots of people call him that – though he gives so little credible evidence of being in Christ.

  4. Caleb says:

Yes, it gravely concerns me that this kind of heresy is being widely accepted amongst professing Christians. But, then again, the lack of discernment and the increasing scarcity of churches that preach sound doctrine probably tells us why. I was appalled that as a Christmas gift, my mother (not as well informed on these things) recieved a copy of “the Shack” from my grandmother.

  5. I really do not understand you Americans….:)

In saying that we have plenty of ‘wacko’s’ over in Australia!

    Rick Warren is dangerous.

  6. shane says:

    Hello.

Let me pose this question to you.

What would you do if your pastor recommended reading the Shack?

  7. DavidW says:

    Matthew:

I don’t blame you for not understanding Americans. I’m just sorry American spawned heresies have infected Australia.

    Shane:

    My answer to your question:

    1) I’d recognize the pastor was woefully lacking in discernment.

    2) I’d wonder if he was also selling out.

    3) I’d make an attempt to show him where and why the book conflicts with the Scriptures.

    4) If he does not heed the Scriptures, admit his error to his congregation, and warn them against the errors of the book, I would rebuke him in love and leave.
