‘Are you one of those families who feel slighted because people around you have a larger family or a larger house, or more of this or more of that; and as a result, you sometimes get on your face at night grieved before God asking Him why He likes them better than He likes you?

The reward for Noah’s righteousness was…he got to get on the ark. “God, there’s people out there who are wealthier than I am”. “Not gettin’ on the ark Noah”. “God, there’s people out there who have more kids than me”. “Not gettin’ on the ark Noah”.  “God, there’s people out there who are taller than me, stronger than me, more powerful than me. They have more clout than I do”. “THEY’RE NOT GETTING ON THE ARK NOAH. BUT YOU ARE, AND YOUR CHILDREN ARE”.

Have you come to that place in your life where you understand the reward for your righteousness is GOD?’

  1. Manfred says:

Thanks for giving me another sermon for my MP3 player! Truth exposes sin. How I praise God for faithful servants who shrink not from proclaiming His Truth.

  2. I listened to that the other day, it’s a great sermon.

  3. mbaker says:

    unworthy1,

But what about Christians who feel the same way? Like they are somehow superior to you because of the life they’ve led, and what they’ve accumulated, or done ministry wise, or because they feel they are more correct in their belief than you are.

Unfortunately, I know way too many of those. Non- believers tell me that’s exactly what turns them off to Christianity. Lots of folks are good Sunday Christians, even pride themselves on being better than the average person, and look good to everyone else, but they judge you by that you have, rather than who you are.

I decry this trend I see in American Christianity. Like John MacArthur, I wonder how well Jesus would be received among Christians nowadays.

  4. Deanna says:

I have felt that way before, but then I have to remind myself that for the unbeliever- this life is the best they will have. I have struggled with coveting , but as a stay at home mom, I know that it is most important that I stay home with my kids and teach them about God. They are my mission field. No money can compare!

  5. MBaker~
I understand what you are saying, the ‘holier than thou’ professing Christian who makes you feel like you don’t measure up. May the Holy Spirit convict them of this pride and arrogance. If they truly belong to Christ, they will be convicted and brought to repentance. Otherwise, ‘they’re not gettin’ on the ark’.
