martyn-lloyd-jones1Wanting to listen to the Word is inevitable if men and women are born again and have become Christians. A babe…has an instinct for milk. He wants it!…He is alive and wants the mother’s milk, and rightly so. The point is clear. One simply cannot be a Christian and have no desire for a knowledge of this truth — it is impossible.

Martin Lloyd-Jones on the believer’s desire for the Word of God

This is the point I have been trying to make for years. People complain that one cannot say “you cannot be saved unless you do this”, while naming some ritual or work. I tell them that we cannot create a “proof works” for salvation, BUT how can one be born again and indwelt by the Holy Spirit of the living God and NOT BE CHANGED, not have any desire for the things of God, not have any distaste for the world?

That seems to shut them up, but they still have no interest in the Word of God. Except for a few :-)
