America? Or Rome?

Back in September, Pilgrim posted a video of Voddie Baucham (pronounced BAHK-um) talking about the American public ejuhkashun, I mean, edgumaqatian, um, skrool system, and how “If we continue to send our children to Caesar for their education, we need to stop being surprised when they come home as Romans.”

Lately I have been noticing how the society we now live in is very similar to the days of the Roman Empire.

For example…

Rome

  • Romans’ popular cry was “Bread and Games!”
  • Romans delighted in gladiators and chariot races.
  • Romans put a high emphasis on knowledge, physical skills and attributes.
  • Romans were easily amused by theater.
  • Romans were given to drinking much wine.
  • Rome allowed you to belong to any religion you wanted so long as you understood that the Caesar was God.
  • Rome did everything they could to destroy Christians.

America

  • America Fills itself with potato chips and football.
  • America delights in Ultimate Fighting and NASCAR.
  • America puts a high emphasis on trivia, glamour, and physical attraction
  • America is easily amused by TV and movies.
  • America is given to much wine, beer, whiskey, Scotch, vodka, malt liquor, wine coolers…
  • America allows you to belong to any religion you want so long as you remember that the government is God.

How long until America begins doing everything it can to destroy Christians?

As far as I can tell from my experience, America has already began in its destruction of Biblical Christianity.

  2. Loving this post. I wouldn’t narrow it down to just America though. I’m British and i think the UK and Ireland is now much like this. They say we are so many years behind you guys in the States….so everything that you guys do we eventually end up following suit. Much of the western world shares the same attributes….we have created a mini-Rome. I was just thinking about this the other day before you put the post up. Im speaking at the end of the month at a University CU and i’ve pulled out this verse as i think its appropriate for the current economic/social climate. We in the west think we dont need God…………even the church to a large extent………we are a proud and arrogant “nation” who has built a bubble for themselves………now that bubble has burst and I just wonder whether it is the corrective providential hand of God or whether we truly are moving in to a period like Rome were they want to “destroy” Christians. Intriguing…..

“Lest you forget the Lord your God by not keeping his commandments and his rules and his statutes, which I command you today, lest, when you have eaten and are full and have built good houses and live in them, and when your herds and flocks multiply and your silver and gold is multiplied and all that you have is multiplied, then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery…. Beware lest you say in your heart, “My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.” (Deut. 8:11-14, 17)

Wine coolers? Do they really still make those? I’ve got to start witnessing to different classes of people.

The school system is awful. I can tell you that first hand. The goals of most of my peers are one of the following: popularity, academic achievement, sports achievement, fun. Their entire goal is to make themselves fell valuable or worth something. It’s sad to watch a friend struggle for something that is impossible, at least by their method. There are a select few who strive for higher purposes. Even then, it’s hard to be a Christian when the rest of the school is pulling you down.

It’s a system of conformity. When you’re the only light in the room, you tend to go out in order to blend in. There is some unknown, unseen standard that all strive to become. All uniqueness is destroyed, and all that is left is a trite body of people – all the same… all the same – and there is so much darkness within the walls of the system that even the most meticulous viewer cannot help but stumble over the stone they cannot see.

The only way I can sum it up is to say, and please pardon my language, the school system sucks.

  5. From what I understand, Rome collapsed due to corruption within, not just because of the external invasions mounted by hostile barbarians.

  6. The school system is awful! I remember what I had to put up with when I attended and that was …. years ago! (A long time before the youngsters of today!) I hated school then and I hate to think of what it is now. I am very thankful that I have home schooled my children most of their childhood (lacking about 3-4 years during that time).

Keep your eyes on the Lord, TWill! He can help you through any situation you are in!

If my generation is the future, the future looks dark. I live in the Bible belt (deep south), and if they’re little light here, I can’t imagine how the rest of the US is. All I know is to run towards Christ until it kills me or I get there.

Though the world is getting dark, the night is always darkest before the dawn. Christ is coming soon. That dawn we will witness the greatest, most terrible sunrise. All will be in the light, all deeds will be exposed, and judgment will presume. But for those of us who are justified through Christ, the night will never come again.
