maybe it would help you to consider this. If Comfort was advertised to be preaching in a Roman Catholic conference entitled “Meditations on the Eucharistic Christ” with fellow speakers like Scott Hahn, Steve Ray etc., would you say that is ok?

Since when was sharing the Gospel with the lost means that the evangelist is exempt from any of the commands of Scripture? Sure, let’s look at Comfort’s preaching at the conference before we judge, but why are we so quick to defend someone, anyone, who is an evangelist, and to judge those who express concern as “causing public discord and strife among the brethren”? If the person was not Ray Comfort but some unknown person, will you get so upset if AM and SofL did the same thing?

Comparing Ray Comfort to Rick Warren and Bill Hybels is comparing apples to oranges; there is no comparison. It distresses me that there are those within the discernment categories that do not seem to know the difference, and ironically, the sin in this matter is coming from those same ones causing public discord and strife among the brethren for those sharing the gospel with the lost. Brother Comfort doesn’t need your, or AM of SofL permission to be the obedient servant that he is as he answers to the Lord and His call. I think some need to wait until Brother comfort sins and then cast their stones; in the meantime, perhaps some need to take the log out of their own eye?

I really don’t think he woke up one morning, checked his voice mail, heard a message inviting him to speak at this thing, and just jumped up and said, “I’ll be right there!” Do we think for one moment that he did not consider the possible backlash from accepting this invitation?

Consider how many speaking invitations the man must get in a year. I dare say he gets more invites than there are days in the year. So he must carefully consider each and every invitation, and ask the Lord for guidance on which ones to accept. Also consider the godly people he has around him in his ministry that he can take counsel with. I believe that he has taken counsel from these people, and with much prayer he has concluded that God has sent him to this conference for the purpose of preaching the true gospel of our Lord.

Now, I don’t know the man personally. But I do know this much: He greatly loves the Lord, and he would preach the gospel in Antarctica if he thought that’s where God was leading him.

why is Ray Comfort treated as if he is infallible and unacccountable just because he is an evangelist? We’ll see how Comfrot preaches at that conference, but are you trying to say that there is one standard of conduct for Christians like Rick Warren, Bill Hybels et al, but another for Christians like Ray Comfort? Since when was obedience to 2 Cor. 6:14-18 rendered optional for certain groups of Christians who happen to be more orthodox? Did Paul gave Peter a free pass to compromise just because he was an apostle who is soundly orthodox and who preaches the first sermon on the day of Pentecost?

In response to your comments, thank you for the clarification; however, I never questioned your position on presenting the gospel to the lost, what I did question was the issues that were presented. To me this should not even be an issue, as I have written. I believe you and I see eye to eye on this matter, but I am deeply distressed, that AM and SoL and now Puritan Fellowship would cause such strife and discord and meddle in what does not concern them, and bring this before a public forum and publically gossip about another Brother doing the Lord’s work. This is just plain wrong, and that is why I posted what I did on my site, but not until I emailed AM and Slice first to let them know how wrong they were. AM rejected what I told him. Anyway, I removed AM and Slice from my public blog list as I do not want to be implicated or associated publically with a site who would do this kind of thing.

Depending on what happens, it may also be interesting to see if Paul Washer preaches against the so-called “Word of Faith” teachings when he appears at the Deeper Conference with Comfort and Cameron.

Most people who learn their “reformed theology” primarily from the internet hold Mr. Washer in higher esteem even than Piper, MacArthur, and Sproul. I can’t imagine that the same guilt-by-association will be applied to the beloved Mr. Washer, or if he catches a break under the “once removed” exception, but we’ll see.
